The Best Yummly Alternatives in 2026 (Now That It's Gone)

Whirlpool closed Yummly in December 2024, and millions of saved recipe boxes went dark with it. Here's where to rebuild — and how to make sure it never happens again.

Yummly was, for years, the biggest recipe box on the internet — more than 20 million people used it to save and discover recipes. In December 2024, Whirlpool shut it down. The apps went dark, the website followed, and saved collections went with them; there was never a one-click way to export everything. If you're reading this, you're probably rebuilding. This guide covers what to rebuild into — and how to make sure no app can take your recipes away again.

The lesson before the list

The shutdown taught one thing worth internalizing: a recipe collection is only yours if you can export it. Whatever you pick next, find the export button before you save your hundredth recipe. Every recommendation below passes that test.

First: what did you use Yummly for?

Yummly was really two products, and the right replacement depends on which one you miss:

  • Discovery — an endless feed of new recipes matched to your tastes. The closest free replacement is Samsung Food (built on Whisk): a huge catalog, a community feed, and solid saving tools, funded by Samsung's appliance business rather than your wallet.
  • The recipe box — the place your recipes lived. For that you want a private vault that captures from anywhere and can actually be searched. That's the comparison below.

Samsung Food — if you miss the feed

The nearest thing to Yummly's discovery experience, and it's free with a real web app. Know what you're getting: the AI personalizes one recipe at a time and plans from Samsung's catalog — it doesn't answer questions across your collection — and there's no email-in and no translation of saved recipes.

Paprika 3 — if you want to buy once and own it

A one-time purchase per device, a superb clipper, and full offline use. There's no web app and no AI — you organize by hand. A Paprika 4 beta announced in spring 2026 adds AI photo scanning and social-media import, so the gap is narrowing.

AnyList — if the grocery list was the point

If you mostly used Yummly to get ingredients onto a shopping list, AnyList's lists are the best in the business. Its recipe side is basic by comparison.

Where iwant2eat fits

If Yummly was the box where your recipes lived, iwant2eat is that box with better doors: save by pasting a link, dropping a photo, using the browser extension, or simply forwarding an email to recipe@iwant2eat.com — as far as we can tell, still the only recipe manager with its own email address. Then ask your collection questions in plain language (“what can I make with the chicken and spinach?”), translate any recipe into any of 29 languages, and let the AI draft your week from recipes you already own. And the export button Yummly never gave you is one click: JSON or PDF, anytime.

Rebuilding your Yummly collection

  • Start with your browser. Your bookmarks and history hold most of the source pages you saved from. Paste the URLs in, or re-clip them in one click with the extension.
  • Forward the emails. Recipe newsletters you kept can go straight to your vault's email address.
  • Photograph the printouts and recipe cards — OCR turns them back into text.
  • Then check the export works. Fool me once.
